The short version

Only cookies the site needs to work, so there's no cookie banner.

No tracking

No advertising, social media or cross-site tracking cookies.

On your device

Some choices, like your piano, are kept in your browser's storage.

Your control

You can clear them in your browser at any time; you'll be signed out.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (local storage) works in a similar way but is never sent to our servers. Both are covered here.

2. Cookies that keep the service working

These are strictly necessary, so the law doesn't require consent for them:

  • kw_session: keeps you signed in. Ends when you close the browser, or after 30 days if you choose to stay signed in.
  • kw_profile: remembers which profile is active on this device. Up to 30 days.
  • kw_parent_gate: remembers that the parent PIN was entered. 30 minutes.
  • kw_lang: the site language you chose. 1 year.
  • kw_instrument_<profile>: whether a profile was last learning typing or piano, so the app opens on it. 1 year.
  • Staff only: a cookie remembering which admin workspace (piano or typing) was last open. 1 year.

3. Browser storage

These stay on your device and aren't sent to us:

  • kw_midi_device, kw_ble_midi and kw_mic_piano: the piano input you chose (cable, Bluetooth or microphone), so it reconnects next time.
  • kw_connect_piano and kw_connect_checks: your piano type and checklist on the connect guide.
  • kw_studio_audio_device (staff only): the audio input chosen in the recording studio.

4. Other companies

When you pay, Stripe's checkout may set its own cookies to prevent fraud, and if you sign in with Google, Google sets its own cookies on its sign-in page. Their privacy policies apply to those.

We don't use analytics or advertising cookies. If that ever changes, we'll ask for your consent first and update this page.

5. Managing cookies

You can see and delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block the cookies above, you won't be able to sign in. Clearing browser storage forgets your piano choice on that device.
